GTI-Anniversary.com - The 25th Anniversary Register

Although the GTI has been around for 25 years there has only been two Anniversary editions of the marque - these being the MK3 at 20 years and the recent MK4 at 25 years. Recently the US market has introduced the 20th Anniversary edition of the Mk4 thats going down a storm with US enthusiasts.



The MK3 Golf 20th Anniversary was introduced in 1996 as a special edition version of the MK3 Golf, celebrating 20 years of Golf production. The MK3 Anniversary came in 3 flavours. The 8v, 16v and in Europe a 110Tdi version, showing that VW weren't afraid to put a 'sports' diesel in the range. VW brought 750 Anniversary models into the UK of which only 150 were the 16v version. 5 colours were available in 3 or 5 door guise. Key features » 16" BBS RX split rims with 215/40 16 tyres. Red brake calipers. New front spoiler. Red pinstripe on bumpers. Chrome exhaust tailpipes. Sports seats with GTI logo. Alloy gearknob. Red detailing on seat belts, steering wheel and handbrake. The MK4 Golf 25th Anniversary was introduced in 2002 to mark 25 years of Golf production. The MK4 Anniversary comes with either the 1.8T engine with 180BHP or the 1.9PDi engine with 150BHP. Available as a 3 door only and in just 3 colours, 1800 are being sold into the UK. The car looks identical to the 337 version sold in the US although the US version is lower spec inside. The MK4 Golf 20th Anniversary was introduced in 2003 as the US equivalent of the 25th Anniversary, but with a few minor changes (wheels, interior colour scheme in grey pinstripe and a wider range of colours) compared to the previous special 337 version. 4200 are being made, with 200 going to Canada and the rest destined for the US.
